Charlie transitioned from a nanny to Roots & Wings at 21 months.  We were so nervous that he would struggle without all the personalized attention he got from his nanny, but in fact he really started to blossom almost as soon as he started attending!  Now he loves his daycare friends, and tells us regularly that his teachers are his “best friends.”

We will be sending Charlie back next year, along with his sister Olive.

Both my son and daughter attended Roots and Wings and there truly is no better daycare to make the initial transition from home to daycare. The fact that you’ll see so many parents enroll their second child is a testament to how much anyone who has had experience with Roots and Wings loves it. Aise and Sandy are the most loving caregivers, and it’s obvious that every single child loves them just as much in return. My son considers Aise one of his “best friends.” We still keep in touch with many other past parents, and reminisce about how there really is no other daycare that could have cared for our children as well as Aise and Sandy did. It’s no wonder that every past parent sings their praises from the rooftops! I can guarantee that there is no other daycare in all of Park Slope that will take better care of your kids.

We feel so lucky that our daughter has been at Roots and Wings for almost the last two years.  Aise and Sandy were extremely attentive and caring to her (and to us!) during our initial transition and now it has truly become an extension of our home. Her teachers and friends at “school” have become the characters in our storybooks, the topic of conversation at the dinner table each night, and people we enjoy running into around the neighborhood on weekends. We are looking forward to another year!

Roots and Wings was a perfect place for our son to be as a toddler; he was able to be around loving adults with other children. It is a loving daycare environment that feels like home.

We feel so fortunate that our son attended Roots and Wings this past year.  Aise and Sandy are wonderful, kind people who truly adore all the kids.  The environment is warm and friendly and feels like a home.  Our son has so much fun all day long that he wants to be the last one picked up!  And he asks me every day if he can go to daycare to see Aise, Sandy and all his friends.  We couldn’t be happier.  Thank you Roots and Wings!

Roots and Wings provided our daughter, Theodocia, with love, support and structure for two amazing years. We attribute most of her great behavior and excellent manners to the environment that Aise and Sandy have created! It’s was so nice to know that when we dropped her off, she was in for a day of warmth, caring and safety. We whole-heatedly recommend Roots and Wings.

Our daughter attended Roots & Wings for 2 days a week from age 1.5 to 3 and we loved it. Aise and Sandy, the two main caregivers are amazingly attentive, energetic, caring and creative with juggling the demands of little people. We found them to be great at communicating with us in terms of how our daughter was doing and responsive to any extra needs we had. We also really liked how they went outside to play a lot, at the nearby playground as well as on mini little walks. I always felt that my daughter was in good hands and even on days when morning separation was hard she always had a good/happy day there. I’d highly recommend them to any parent!

We absolutely LOVE Roots & Wings. Our son has been going there since he was 10 months old and is now almost 3. He went to another day care prior to R&W and we only switched because of a scheduling need, but when we did, it was like our eyes were opened up to what day care could be and everything we were missing out on. The day care is run by two women who are truly gifted at connecting to children and have created such a warm and loving atmosphere that we feel lucky to have our son there. In addition, it’s an environment where we have come to make friends with other parents and it feels like there is a real community around the place. This will be our son’s last year due to his age, but we are all sad for him to leave. We will definitely be sending our daughter there when she is old enough.

The word I always use to describe Roots and Wings is “warm.” I’m sure there are many daycare centers where my children would have been taken care of, but I know that they would never be loved as much as they are at Roots and Wings. Sandy and Aise are amazing. I would often find my son sitting in one of their laps when I came for pick-up and I usually leave my daughter being snuggled in one of their arms at drop-off. Whether there are 2 children or 12, Aise and Sandy are always engaged, attentive, and caring. They have this magic ability to have a group of toddlers all playing well together and engrossed in the same activity. Usually with a child in their arms and still playing with others, Aise and Sandy still have time to communicate with me about my child’s day. They have been enourmously helpful with transitions such as potty training and the arrival of a baby sister. I think my son got through those times so easily because of the stability and safety he felt at Roots and Wings. Even though my son is now in preschool he still asks to play at Roots and Wings when we pick his sister up from there and greets Aise and Sandy with hugs usually reserved for family members. I honestly don’t think we could have asked for a better place for our children.

Both my sons have attended Roots and Wings, and we just feel so comfortable there, it feels like a little family. My boys felt so safe and happy from the get go – it’s nice to really feel you can trust your children’s caregivers a thousand percent. Aise and Sandy are so warm and loving and fun, and it’s just the most positive environment. My younger son comes home talking about his friends there and the songs they sang and the playground and his beloved teachers. I didn’t even consider any place else for my second child because I knew we wouldn’t find another place we loved so much.

When we walked into Roots and Wings, we looked at each other and immediately knew that this was the place for us. After touring countless daycares, we were struck by the warmth, creativity, and energy coming out of the room. In our fifteen minutes there, kids came up to us and showed us art projects, asked the teachers for hugs, and told us things that they had learned. The 15-month kids seemed just as engaged as the 2 year olds. Sandy and Aise, the directors and main caregivers, are compassionate and nurturing; this is not just a job for them, but their life’s calling. They take the children outside to the playground every day, and have art, music, yoga, spanish, and a range of other activities during the day. They have designed a preschool curriculum that is age-appropriate for the group, and the kids achieve milestones together. Our older son, Thomas, went there from 10-months until 2.5 and thrived; now he loves stopping there to pick up his brother, who recently started at 11-months, to play for a half hour. Our baby, Samuel, smiles when we drop him off. Whereas he had separation anxiety whenever we left with him a nanny, he adores going to Roots and Wings and has not cried a single morning. We feel very lucky to have found this special place.

The minute that I walked out of Roots and Wings, I just knew. I had been to 4 different places and they were my last stop. And, ironically, our nanny at the time (my daughter started Roots at 11 months post-nanny) had sent her 10 year old there years prior and loved Aise and Sandy. Laila has thrived and grown at Roots and Wings with the love, kindness and generosity that Aise and Sandy provide to each and every child. Roots is a small family and you will consider them friends not even realizing how much it means to you that they love your child almost as much as you do. And, more importantly, see them and nurture them for the individual that they are.
